Door: Jos La Grande. Vijftig jaar nadat Jacques Herb 74 het liedje De Toreador zong tijdens een talentenjacht is het nu de absolute carnavalshit van 2020. De combinatie van twee djs 'Opgeblazen' en de Brabantse zanger Wilbert Pigmans zorgt ervoor dat jong en oud uit zijn dak gaat als het nummer wordt gedraaid. Voor Jacques Herb, die ook prominent in de videoclip is te zien, moet het een vreemde gewaarwording zijn dat zijn Toreador een 'wereldhit' is in Nederland. De zanger, ook wel bekend van het hitnummer Manuela, schreef Toreador in 1969, dus 51 jaar geleden. Herb treedt nog steeds op en dat doet hij behoorlijk intensief, vooral in het bekende schnabbelcircuit. Hij zingt dan zijn vele hits, inclusief De Toreador, en steekt dan een bordje 'Olé' omhoog, het moment waarop het publiek de Spaanse strijdkreet kan scanderen. Tegenwoordig draagt hij ook twee kleuren schoenen, zwart en wit. Oh oh, senorita, dit is het momentóó, zo start De Toreador, waarvan door Opgeblazen ook een houseversie is gemaakt, als vanouds.
